There is a huge variety of cheap kitchen tables on the market today, coming in all sorts of shapes, materials and sizes.
Perhaps the biggest factor that makes one "cheap" or not is the building material it's made out of. For instance, if you get an acrylic table, these can be extremely expensive at 1,000's of dollars. However if you get a knock-off acrylic, they can be in the low hundreds, often looking the same.

The same goes with solid wood kitchen tables versus veneered covered. Solid wood will obviously be a lot pricier. The tables that have a veneer finish will be considerably cheaper. These are types you can usually find at big box retailers like Wal-mart and Target.
There's a variety of styles to choose from.
"Country Kitchen Tables"- Picture a house on the farm with a kitchen heavily draped in checkered patterns, pies cooling on the kitchen table. What kind of table do you envision in your mind? Probably a robust looking solid wood design, right? Country tables are extremely popular in the United States.
You can get other "Country" tables, but ones that need to be imported will most likely be more expensive, since there is the cost of shipping. Some bigger stores online still carry "Italian" tables or "French" country kitchen tables. Since the store is bigger, they can charge less for the table.
"Retro Kitchen Tables"- Retro kitchen tables fun for some, ugly for others. You probably can picture these in your mind. Picture an "ugly" color like a turquoise, or a bright red topped table, with metal ringing the table. This was the hot style in the 40's and 50's, and some people are embracing the old style. Get a taller table with some stools and you'll be looking like you have a soda shop in your house.
"Counter Height Tables"- The higher setting tables for the kitchen and dining room are becoming popular in the last few years. Is this going to be a fad? Or is it just a great design of table? A lot of people find it easier to serve food, bend over to sit down, and prepare food on these tables. It's obviously in the eye of the beholder as to which type of table is best.
